Subsequently, he made the transition to the United States, where he continued his medical studies at the University of Buffalo. Dr. Balaya furthered his medical training by completing his residency at Buffalo's Women and Children's Hospital, which is now known as Oshei Children's Hospital, where he was honored with the Chief Resident Teaching Award in 2012.
